Kelly named SSC Softball Player of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 8-ranked Saint Leo softball freshman Kacie Kelly was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week after her weekend performance against Florida Southern, for the week ending March 26.

The Jacksonville, Fla. native had her way with the Moccasins' pitchers as she went 11-for-13, with no strikeouts, from the plate for a team-best .846 batting average. Kelly scored four runs and tallied six RBI on the weekend where she hit two doubles and a triple in the Lions' three-game SSC series sweep over Florida Southern.

Kelly finished the week with a 1.154 slugging percentage with a .846 on-base percentage where she touched 15 total bags. She went 1-for-1 in stolen bases where she recorded a 1.000-fielding percentage with 10 putouts and four assists.

In Friday's 4-1 win, Kelly went 4-for-4 from the plate where she turned around and went 3-for-4 in game one and 4-for-5 in game two on Saturday. Saint Leo improved to 28-7, 9-3 SSC after winning game one 10-2 in six innings and 8-1 in game two.

This is the first honor for Kelly of her career where it is the Lions' second honor this season (Ohmie, Feb. 26). 

Ohmie's player of the week honor is the first of the season for her and the Lions as a team, while it is her second of her career. 

Saint Leo returns homes for a weekend series with the Barry Buccaneers Friday, March 31 for a 7 p.m. start and a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m.
