SAINT LEO, Fla. – After a perfect 4-0 weekend and two wins over then-No. 4 Armstrong State, the Saint Leo softball team moved up eight spots in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Coaches' Poll to No. 8 in the nation, announced Wednesday.

The Lions (12-3) went 4-0 over the weekend at the Florida Tech and Marriott Brawl at the Beach in Melbourne, Fla. Saint Leo started their weekend off with a six inning 8-0 win against East Stroudsburg, where starting pitcher Alison Mitts threw a no-hitter holding the Warriors to no runs, no hits, and just one walk in the six innings of work. The Lions continued to work as they took down then-No. 4 Armstrong State 5-1 on Saturday.

Saint Leo played two games Sunday, starting with a 7-3 win over Stonehill before a 7-5 win in eight innings over Armstrong State. In the win over the Pirates, three passed balls allowed Sommer Pollard to score in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game forcing extra innings. Bailey McKenna started on second base and came in to score on a two-run walk-off home run by Samantha Ohmie in the bottom of the eighth with no outs and a 2-2 count.

The Lions kick off their home portion of their schedule this weekend when they welcome Sunshine State Conference provisional member Embry-Riddle to Saint Leo for a three-game series Feb. 24 and Feb. 25. Saint Leo and Embry-Riddle start things off Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at University Softball Field before a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m.

On Saturday, Saint Leo will host a free sports mini clinic to celebrate Girls and Women in Sports Day, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the University Intramural Field on campus. Attendees are welcome to stay for free pizza and receive admission to the doubleheader.
