SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo softball team and head coach Erin Kinberger announced the addition of three student-athletes during the fall signing period. The Lions add depth to their roster in the infield with the signing of National Letters of Intent from Deanna Falciglia, Madison Lynn, and Danielle Thieman.
"We are excited to welcome these three ladies to the Saint Leo Softball family," Head Coach Erin Kinberger mentioned of the three student-athletes that signed a National Letter of Intent. "They will be great additions to our program."
Deanna Falciglia Pos: INF/UT
Hometown: Bronx, N.Y. High School: Cardinal Spellman High
Falciglia has been a member of the varsity team for three years entering her senior season at Cardinal Spellman, while she is a three-time team captain. She was selected to the All-Bronx Team as a catcher following her junior season where she averaged a .528 batting average with two home runs, 22 runs batted in, 22 runs scored, 12 doubles and 37 total hits.
Kinberger on Falciglia "Deanna 'DJ' Falciglia is joining the SLUSB family all the way from Bronx, N.Y. DJ is an athlete who has a love for the game in her blood. We are looking forward to seeing her game knowledge and athleticism in a Lion uniform. She can play anywhere in the dirt ... literally."
Falciglia on why she chose Saint Leo: "I chose Saint Leo because I fell in love with the family-oriented, 'push-one-another' atmosphere and attitude that reminded me of home, and there is nothing I could want more in a school and team."
Maddy Lynn Pos: C/MI/UT Hometown: Lithia, Fla. High School: Newsome High
As a member of the Newsome high school softball team in 2015, Lynn helped her team win the State Championship as a junior, where she competed in all 39 games and finished with a .329 batting average. Lynn recorded 24 hits, drove in nine runs while scoring 21 of her own last season. She led her team in stolen bases with six in eight attempts while she obtained a .449 on-base percentage with a .521 slugging percentage. While playing the field, Lynn held a .986 fielding percentage with 51 putouts and 17 assists in 160 innings played.
Kinberger on Lynn "We've had the opportunity to watch Maddy for a couple years, and we are very excited to officially have her in Green and Gold. She is an exceptional ballplayer and athlete who has proven to be a winner on the field & in the classroom. She fits our culture to-a-tee."
Lynn on why she chose Saint Leo: "I chose to further my softball career and education at Saint Leo because of the family atmosphere created by both the coaches and the players. I can't wait to be a part of the family."
Pos: P/1B Hometown: Frankfort, Ill. High School: Marion Catholic
Thieman is a three-year varsity member heading into her senior season where she averaged a .468 batting average after her junior season. She led the Marion Catholic team with nine home runs and 39 runs batted in, where she owned a 13-6 pitching record inside the circle. Thieman notched 118 strikeouts, which was the most on the team with a .905 fielding percentage as a pitcher and first baseman. Thieman helped guide her team to the first regional title since the 2008 season where she followed that with All-East Suburban Catholic Conference honors. She was a three-time Southtown Athlete of the Week and was selected as the Southtown Athlete of the Month once. This fall, she averaged a .467 batting average.
Kinberger on Thieman "Dani will bring power to the mound and plate. We look forward to her getting in the bullpen with Coach Holub and watching the two of them take her game to the next level."
Thieman on why she chose Saint Leo: "I chose Saint Leo because the moment I walked onto campus, I instantaneously knew this would be my home for the next four years. I was enthralled by the welcoming students, outstanding softball program, small class sizes, and beautiful campus. At Saint Leo, I will be able to thrive athletically, while also obtaining an outstanding education for my future in psychology."
