Saint Leo Softball releases 2017 slate

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo softball team and Head Coach Erin Kinberger announced the 2017 schedule. The Lions schedule shows 17 home contests at University Softball Stadium with six doubleheaders.

Saint Leo opens their 2017 slate with Flagler on Feb. 1 at 5 and 7 p.m. before a three-day tournament at the Eckerd Tournament on Feb. 3-5 in Clearwater, Fla. at the Eddie C. Moore Complex, their first trip to the complex of the year.

Following the Eckerd tournament, the Lions will travel back to Clearwater to take part in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Leadoff Classic held Feb. 10-12 at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla. The Lions will take on Central Missouri on the 10th at 5 p.m. followed by Tiffin on the 11th at 5:30 p.m.

Saint Leo will wrap up their Leadoff Classic schedule with St. Mary's (Texas), who advanced to the 2016 NCAA Super Regional last year, on the 12th at 11:30 a.m.

The Lions travel to Melbourne to play in their final tournament of the season on Feb. 17-19 at Florida Tech, where Armstrong State is on the slate at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 18 and 19, respectively.

Saint Leo will open up play on their home field against Embry-Riddle on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. before a double-header on Feb. 25 at 12 and 2 p.m.

Sunshine State Conference play sees the Lions open at Nova Southeastern on March 3 at 6 p.m. before the first SSC doubleheader of the year on the March 4 at 1 and 3 p.m. Saint Leo will take a step out of conference play when it travels to Clermont, Fla. to face Ashland and Findlay on March 7.

The Lions return home for the first time in March for an SSC match-up with Eckerd at 7 p.m. on March 10 and the standard doubleheader on March 11 at 12 and 2 p.m. Saint Leo continues their five-game home stand with two out of conference games against Caldwell with a midweek showcase on March 14 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The Green and Gold head to Boca Raton, Fla. to tango with the Lynn Fighting Knights on March 17 at 3 p.m. The Fighting Knights and Lions face off on March 18 at 12 and 2 p.m. Saint Leo wraps up its road trips in March with a weekend series in Lakeland against Florida Southern on March 24 at 7 p.m. The Moccasins and Lions take the field at 1 and 3 on March 25 before Saint Leo heads home to end the month with a game on March 31 against Barry at 7 p.m.

The final two games of the three-game series with Barry opens up play in April on April 1 at 1 and 3 at University Softball Field. The Lions alternate road and home series for the month of April with their first road trip midweek to Melbourne, Fla. on April 4-5 to take on Florida Tech starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers and Lions continue to play Wednesday at 1 and 3 p.m.

Heading home for another midweek showdown, the Lions welcome in SSC rival Tampa on April 12 at 6 p.m. and April 13 at 5 and 7. The Lions final road trip of the season will be to West Palm Beach to take on Palm Beach Atlantic on April 21 and 22 with game times of 7 p.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., respectively.

Saint Leo will conclude the regular season on April 27 and 28 at home when they host Rollins for a Thursday-Friday special. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. in that series followed by Friday's 6 and 8 start times.

The Lions, who ended their season a year ago with the SSC Title and a trip to the NCAA South Region, will look to make a deeper run in the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
