Softball Earns Split in Savannah
Saint Leo only run in the bottom of the seventh could not overcome the early 4-0 lead by the fifth ranked Pirates giving them the win. Meanwhile, Saint Leo overcame a 1-0 deficit in game two to post their third win of five games.
Game one saw a tough 4-1 loss to the No. 5-ranked Armstrong Atlantic Pirates. The Lions only score came by way of Angela Kafalas who doubled to center field and scored Brittany Ewing in the bottom of the seventh inning. Unfortunately, the Pirates strung together six hits and four runs to claim the win. The main damage was done in the second inning when the Pirates Kat Vogler doubled followed by a single by Kacie Patterson, and slugger Alexis Mercer steps-up and hits a three run homer to left field.
Starter Alana Tabel (2-3) struggled on the mound, she went 2.0 inning, allowing six hits and four earned. Ashley Ehlers (2-0) came in for the Green and Gold and shut-down the Pirates not giving up a hit in 5.0 innings and getting two striking outs. Tabel saddled the loss.
In game two, Mars Hill took an early 1-0 lead on the Lions before the Lions scratched their way back into the contest. In the fourth inning Saint Leo took advantage of a walk by Cassie Boggs and Tiffiany Thompson Pinch Ran for her, a two out single by Michelle George scored Thompson. In the fifth inning the bats came to life as Sarah Steiner nails a double to left advancing Adriana Sanders to third, and then Cassie Boggs delivers a hard hit double to center field scoring Sanders. The two runs solidified the win.
Starter Sarah Steiner was steady in the circle for the Lions as she tossed a complete game going 7.0 inning. Improving her record to 3-4 allowing six hits and striking out four.
