Lions Break into National Poll at No. 25
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –The Saint Leo softball team, winners of 13 of their last 14, have entered the NCAA national rankings at No. 25. This past weekend the Lions finished off a three-game sweep of Eckerd for their fourth consecutive series win.
Saint Leo has a 34-14 overall record and sits in first place atop the Sunshine State Conference standings with a 14-4 conference record.
Prior to the sweep of Eckerd, Saint Leo dropped the series-opener against Rollins College but battled back in games two and three to win the series and remain in control of the conference race.
The Lions are third in the conference with a team batting average of .287, second in RBI with 192, and lead the conference in triples with 11.
In the Lions' sweep of the Tritons last weekend, two statistical accomplishments were reached with head coach John Conway earning his 300th career win and the Lions breaking the all-time single season steals record. The Lions lead the conference with 134 stolen bases.
With two conference series remaining, at Lynn and at Florida Southern, the Lions are in control of their own postseason destiny.
On Friday the Lions travel to Boca Raton where they will take on the Lynn Fighting Knights in a three-game series.
