Lions Rally For 14 Runs Against Visiting Eckerd Tritons

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo softball team (32-14, 12-4 SSC) defeated the visiting Eckerd College Tritons in Sunshine State Conference Action by a score of 14-0, Friday night from University Stadium. In addition to the run-rule, the Lions also celebrated the high honor of Coach Conway collecting his 300th career win in the effort. 

Freshman Alana Tabel took the mound for the Lions in the win, tossing four shutout innings and allowing just three hits and one walk in the performance. The win improved Tabel's record to 13-5 on the season.

The visiting Tritons allowed 16 Saint Leo hits in the contest, while the Eckerd pitching staff walked six.

While junior Sarah Steiner blasted a triple in the effort, and both Steiner and junior Brittany Ewing tallied doubles, the Lions also had eight batters collect RBIs in the effort (McKenzie Burns; Steiner 4; Rachelle Gremo 3; Ewing 2; Kelsey LaNeave; Danielle Ferrara; Emily Holman; Torrie Weindorf).

 In addition to 16 solid hits, nine Lions cross the plate to score 13 earned runs (Burns 3; Chelsey Steedley 2; Steiner 2; Victoria Obermeier ; Gremo ; Ewing 2; LaNeave: Kafalas; Weindorf).

Saint Leo will return to the field tomorrow when they take on the Eckerd Tritons. The SSC doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m, and senior day festivities will take place in between games.
