SAINT LEO, Fla. – Concluding fall competition with the annual alumni game, the Saint Leo softball team hosted a series of community service events over the course of November, while sharpening skills in preparation for the spring, and having a some fun along the way.
First, the fun. As a special Halloween treat, Head Coach John Conway gave players the opportunity to dress up for the annual Halloween practice. Two players, Emily Holman and Chelsey Steedley, topped the memorable practice session off with a perfect dress rehearsal of Coach Conway's and assistant coach Doug Klipp's spring coaching attire.

Meanwhile, in the community, Conway's group participated in multiple events. First, the ladies spent the morning of October 30 with fellow Saint Leo student-athletes at the Susan Komen Breast Cancer Awareness walk in St. Petersburg, Fla. Additionally, members of the team traveled to Orlando to help at the pug rescue shelter. The team cleaned kennels and assisted with cleaning and caring for the pugs. Finally, the team aided at the Morning Star Fisherman Aquaponics Center by spending almost four hours breaking down and removing multiple concrete aquariums.
The team also ran its second consecutive 'Beef and Beverage' fundraiser at the San Antonio Lounge, where over 80 friends and families enjoyed great food and strong fellowship while raising money for the program.
The competition highlight, however, came at the annual alumni game. Nearly 20 alumni were in attendance for the game as they current group of Lions took home a close victory. Still, the fellowship between the two groups allowed for great story telling during the postgame dinner which was hosted by Erin Kinberger's (Brunt) family.
"All-in-all, the fall saw a group of hard working ladies both on and off the field come together as a team and give back to the community," said Conway. "Their energy in everything they do is appreciated by the entire coaching staff and hopefully will pay off when we begin play in February. They're a fun and entertaining group."
