Yates Named CoSIDA All-District First Team

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo softball catcher Brittany Yates has been selected a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Capital One Academic All-District First Team member, it was announced Thursday.

Yates, a senior for the Lions, concluded her career as the program's all-time leading home run hitter, as well as a Criminal Justice graduate with a 3.55 grade-point-average.

Yates' first team all-district nod allows her to be eligible for Academic All-America honors.

On the field Yates has impressed during her four season. She is one of the most prolific hitters in program history, as she concluded her four-year stint as the Lions' leader in home runs with 35 and doubles with 50. As a senior, the Riverview, Fla. native compiled a team-best .373 batting average, while starting 53-of-54 games. In addition, the catcher led the team in nearly every offensive category including, hits (59), runs (36), doubles (12), home runs (5), and RBI (44).

She was also a recent selection to the All-Sunshine State Conference Second Team at the catcher position.

In the classroom, Yates was just as impressive as she collected a 3.55 cumulative grade-point-average, while graduating last Saturday with a degree in Criminal Justice. It is the first time in her career Yates has been named to the distinct CoSIDA list of honorees.

In total, 12 players were named to the first team, including seven from the Sunshine State Conference.

All-America voting will be compiled in the coming weeks.

The 2012 Capital One Academic All‐District ® Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and  in the classroom. Capital One became the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All‐America teams programs in 2011.
