SAINT LEO, Fla. – Head Saint Leo Softball Coach John Conway has announced the final additions to his 2011-12 squad as the sister combination of Colesa and Colena Lazar each signed National Letters to Intent to compete beginning this fall.

"Both of the Lazar's bring a new element to the team. They are hard-nosed and ready to do anything they can to push this team to the top of the Sunshine State Conference. I am excited to have both of them on the squad," said Conway on his latest signings.

In total, the Lions have received commitments from 11 players for the upcoming season.

Colesa Lazar
5-9, OF/1B, Jr.
Tampa, Fla.
Pasco High School / Santa Fe College

Colesa spent four successful seasons on the Pasco HS squad. The Tampa, Fla. native was a two-time All-Conference Honorable Mention selection, in addition to earning Second and First Team nods during her junior and senior seasons. At Santa Fe College, Lazar impressed again as she held spots on the Second Team All-Conference and Honorable Mention squads. Lazar topped her playing career at Santa Fe with an All-America selection.

Coach Conway's Perspective: "Colesa has the ability to play first base or pitch. She will also bring some much needed power and experience to our lineup. She has a winning attitude, and I expect that to rub off on the rest of our team.

Colena Lazar
5-10, 1B/P, Jr.
Tampa, Fla.
Pasco High School / Santa Fe College

Dominant in the circle at Pasco HS, Colena racked-up spectacular numbers for the Pirates. During her four year stint, she was tabbed a multiple-time All-State selection as well as All-Conference, Pitcher of the Year, Pitcher of the State, and the Best Overall Player. She proved herself again at the next level as Colena overwhelmed opponents at Santa Fe. A two-time All-America, the pitcher also collected multiple All-State selections and multiple conference Pitcher of the Year nods. She also etched her name as State Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore. Lazar concluded her career by breaking Santa Fe records in a trio of categories including, strikeouts, shutouts, and no-hitters.

Coach Conway's Perspective: Colena was one of the top pitchers in junior college this past spring. She led the nation in strikeouts and possesses a competitive attitude. I am hoping she can bring that sort of attitude to our staff. She can mix up her pitches and keep batters off balance and guessing. She is also a strong hitter who possesses power to all fields.

The Lions will open their fall season on September 30 when they take on Division I rival University of South Florida.
