SAINT LEO, Fla. – Coming off a 0-5 performance at the Patriot Invitational in Florence, S.C., the Saint Leo softball team looks to rebound against a trio of out-of-state opponent who make their way to Florida for Spring Break. Over the next four days, the Lions will welcome Francis Marion, Molloy College, and UMass-Lowell into University Field.

Offensive Leaders…
Tiffinee Harvey is batting .407 this season, leading the team with 37 hits and 26 runs scored. She has 19 extra-base hits and driven in 18 runs. Elysha Agen is second on the team in hitting with a .354 average. She has 12 doubles, two triples and a home run. Amber Martyn continues to climb up the ladder and is now registering a .337 average. The 0-5 South Carolina swing didn’t affect Brittany Yates, however, as her .400 average last week bumped her average up to .318. She leads the team in home runs with 10 and RBI with 30. Sarah Boyd is a .293 hitter so far this spring and is second on the squad with 22 RBI.

In the Circle…
Ashton Whidden is leading the way in the circle for the Green & Gold, posting a 9-6 mark and 2.93 ERA. She has 47 strikeouts and allowed 32 earned runs over 98.1 innings. Jaime Walker is 4-3 on the year and allowed just eight walks in 45.2 innings pitched. Kristen Kelly continues to find her groove as a sophomore.  In 55.0 innings, she has 24 strikeouts and allowed 66 hits.

Trends…
The Lions have lost five-consecutive games after winning four-straight. Over those five game, the team is hitting .262, dropping their season average 17 points. The team is also fielding .942 over the same span, having committed nine errors. Yates and Agen lead the team with a combined 12 hits during the streak, while Yates has pounded-out two runs and a double. The offense has been contained as of late, scoring 14 runs over the course of the five games. Opponents, on the other hand, have platted 43 runs and connected on 60 hits including 22 extra-base knocks. The squad had struck out 35 times and is reaching base only 31 percent of the time.

History Watch…
Agen has joined Harvey in pursuit of the single-season doubles record at Saint Leo. Harvey has collected 13 two-baggers on the year, while Agen’s latest hot streak has given her 12 for the year. Harvey stands nine doubles shy of breaking her own record of 21 and Agen stands 10 short. Yates continues to be a deep ball threat and with two home runs last week, now has 23 home runs for her career. She now stands 10 shy of tying the all-time Saint Leo record in home runs, which is held by former Lions’ great Ashley Urbanik.

About Francis Marion…
Led by head coach Stacey Vallee, Francis Marion comes hail from the Peach Belt Conference and currently stand 19-8 on the season. In 2008, the Patriots made it to the Division II College World Series Tournament and finished their season fifth in the country. Their 2010 start is led by a 9-2 home mark and a 6-1 neutral site record. However, the Patriots have had their problems on the road where they are just 4-5 on the season. Heading their offensive punch is a quintet of .330+ hitters, including Destinea Schneider who is sporting a .403 average. She has started in all 27 games and stolen 10 bases. The power is coming from Ashley Jaramillo as she collected a team-best three home runs and 21 RBI. In total, the team is hitting .307 and is outscoring their opponents, 156-82. In the circle, Michaela Wolf anchors a four-member staff with an 11-4 record and a 1.20 ERA. She has 94 strikeouts and allowed just 16 earned runs in 93.0 innings of work. The Patriots have taken both games in the series, both coming at the Patriot Invitational in Florence, S.C. FMU took last year’s matchup 5-4, before upending SLU earlier this season, 11-4.

About Molloy…
Molloy College is a member of the East Coast Conference and is located in Rockville Centre, N.Y. They squad enters week with a 6-2 mark having just split a doubleheader with Barry. Aside from the Buccaneers, the Molloy Lions will take on St. Thomas University, in addition to Saint Leo on the back half of their Florida swing.  The team started the season out 5-0, but has dropped two-of-three. Megan Butterworth is their top hitter, posting a .600 average in six game played. Carla Campagna is providing a lot of the power for the Lions collecting two doubles and two home runs to go along with six RBI. Butterworth is also their top hurler, tossing 21.0 innings and earning 1.67 ERA. She has 16 strikeouts and a 5-3 record. Last year, Saint Leo swept Molloy by the scores of 9-1 and 6-4. In the contest, Yates belted two home runs, while going 6-for-6 with eight RBI. Harvey and Martyn combined for seven hits, while Dianne Gonzalez had a pair of singles. Kelly grabbed her sixth win of the season in the sweep.  Saint Leo has won six-consecutive games heading into the week.

About UMass-Lowell…
A Northeast-10 member, the UMass-Lowell River Hawks are located in Lowell, Mass. The team has spent the entire first half of the season at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla. where they have tallied a 5-3 record. After a 2-3 start, the River Hawks have ripped-off three wins in a row. They have posted key wins against SSC foe Florida Southern, as well as Molloy and Philadelphia. The team is averaging nearly seven runs per game in their wins, while averaging three runs in their three losses. They have posted 50 runs over the first eight games and will compete in four other games in Clermont before taking on SLU. Sophomore pitcher Elyssa Burke secured a no-hitter in their last two-game sweep of Minnesota-Crookston.
