SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo softball team was ranked 45th in the 2008-09 version of the “Girls Got Game” All-Academic Teams; it was announced by the NFCA.

With a team grade-point-average of 3.180, the Saint Leo softball team finished the 2008-2009 season as one of the top-50 Division II academic programs in the country.

Led by two perfect 4.0 GPA’s, the Lions totaled three Deans List students accumulating a GPA of 3.65 or better. As a team, the Lions had eight players earn over a 3.20 for the spring semester, each earning Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll accolades. 

The Sunshine State Conference was well represented on the list placing six teams overall. Barry University led all SSC schools with 3.555 GPA and a third-place ranking. 31st on the list was Nova Southeastern with a 3.268 GPA, while Rollins was 38th (3.232). Immediately following the Sharks on the list was Florida Southern at 39th (3.231), and Florida Tech placed just ahead of the Lions with a 41st-place (3.210) showing.

The list is compiled based on grade point averages submitted by teams ranging from the high school level to NCAA Division I. 

SLU begins their fall season on Friday, October 16 with a doubleheader against Pasco-Hernando Community College beginning at 5:00 p.m.
