SAINT LEO, Fla. – In the first of many grade reports that will be released following the conclusion of the 2009 Spring Term, Saint Leo University announced its Dean’s List throughout the entire University, including its main Florida campus and all 17 continuing education centers, and the softball team found three of their four seniors recognized on the list that totaled 38 student-athletes.
Stephanie Discepolo and Ally Maddox both earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the Spring semester and Ashley Urbanik also was recognized as meeting the Dean's List requirements.
The list, which is published at the end of the fall, spring and summer semesters, recognizes students who have earned at least 12 credits with a term grade point average of 3.65 or higher.
"One of our core values at Saint Leo University is excellence, and we are delighted to see these students work so hard to achieve so much and aspire to live out our values," said Maribeth Durst, Ph.D., vice president of academic affairs. The values of excellence, community, respect, personal development, responsible stewardship, and integrity are central to academic life at this leading Catholic teaching university.
Of the 38 Lions earning the achievement, Discepolo and Maddox joined 11 others that finished the term with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
The Dean’s List is the first of many academic honors that will be handed out over the coming months. Some others include the Saint Leo President’s Club Awards, Sunshine State Commissioner’s Honor Roll and the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Awards.
With 15 percent of Saint Leo student-athletes posting over a 3.65 GPA, the Department of Athletics looks to continue its recent strong academic showing after posting a Fall 2008 average above a 3.0 department wide for the first time in Saint Leo history.
