SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University softball team hosted their annual softball alumni game on October 25th. The festivities kicked off with a new tradition established this year by hosting a homerun derby preceding the game.  Kim Edinger Kaye demonstrated she still knew how to hit the long ball, winning the contest in impressive fashion.

Once the game was underway, recent alumni April Slate and Erin Brunt took center stage.  Slate began were she left off last spring, going 4-4 while stealing three bases.  Brunt, once known as the little general, supplied the power for the alumni hitting a double and a homerun over right centerfield fence.

Head coach Christi Wade was impressed with the amount of heart and pride the alumni had for the game and the softball program as a whole. She hopes this year’s team will continue the tradition in which the alumni have established.

At the completion of the game, partakers of the event enjoyed familiar home cooking supplied by Steve and Karen Brunt.  Although the 2008-09 squad was victorious, the evening belonged to the alumni.  Thanks to everyone who helped make it a special occasion.
