Saint Leo, Fla. (March 7, 2007) – The Saint Leo University softball team (8-10) swept visiting Palm Beach Atlantic University (12-19) in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday to stretch its winning streak to four games.  The Lions have won six of their last seven overall.

Game one ended with the Lions winning 3-1 and Saint Leo completed its second doubleheader sweep in as many days with a 7-0 win in the second half of the twinbill.

Saint Leo senior catcher Erin Brunt (Clearwater, Fla.) led the Lions to the wins, as she was a combined 5-for-8 with four RBI and a run scored.  Senior leftfielder Hayley Mallory (Plant City, Fla.) 4-for-7 with an RBI and two runs scored.

SLU pitchers also did their part on the night, as Ashley Urbanik (So., Riverview, Fla.) won game one with a complete-game four-hitter.  She allowed just one run and struck out nine to move her record for 6-5.  Kiki VonHolt (Jr., New Port Richey, Fla.) then followed with a complete-game three-hit shutout.  It was her second shutout in as many nights, as she improved to 2-5.

Saint Leo set the tone for the night early on, as they took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Urbanik in the bottom of the first inning of game one.  The Lions added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings on an RBI single by Brunt and a sacrifice fly from Ally Maddox (So., Brandon, Fla.) to round out the scoring.

In the second game, put together a three-run third and a four-run fourth to give VonHolt all the run support she would need to pick her the victory.  Brunt was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and a run in the second game.

Saint Leo will face regional opposition this weekend when the Lions face the University of Alabama-Huntsville and the University of North Alabama at Florida Southern College Friday and Saturday.  Friday’s doubleheader will begin at noon with Saturday’s double dip beginning at 4:00 p.m.
