Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (March 2, 2007) – The Saint Leo University softball team (3-9, 1-3 SSC) opened its three-game Sunshine State Conference series at Nova Southeastern University (8-10, 0-1 SSC) with a 5-0 win Friday night.

Saint Leo starting pitcher Ashley Urbanik (So., Riverview, Fla.) tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout, striking out eight to help the Lions record their first SSC win of the season.  RF April Slate went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, while SS Alison Flynn was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Lions scored three runs in the fifth and added a pair in the seventh as insurance to post their second straight win overall.  A pair of infield singles and back-to-back double steals scored a pair of the runs in the fifth.

The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow to wrap up their three-game series.  Opening pitch of game one is slated for 1:00 p.m.
