Melbourne, Fla. (February 21, 2007) – The Saint Leo University softball team (1-6, 0-1 SSC) was edged 5-4 by Florida Tech (8-9, 1-0 SSC) in both teams’ Sunshine State Conference opener on Wednesday night.

Tech got an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap off a rally from an early 4-0 deficit and pick up the win.

Saint Leo had jumped to an early lead with a four-run first inning.  Ashley Urbanik (So., Riverview, Fla.) got the scoring started with a bases loaded two-run double.  Two more runs scored on a throwing error by Tech pitcher Judith Husband.

The Panthers began their rally with a three-run third inning and tied the score with a single run in the fifth.  Ashley Lugo then delivered the game-winning RBI double in the seventh, scoring Latie Naumoff from second with the winning run.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader to conclude their three-game series.  First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
