Cross country teams hold in South Region rankings

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Both the Saint Leo men's and women's cross country teams retained their South Region rankings in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Region poll. The women held No. 1 for the fifth consecutive week, while the men's cross country team held at No. 4 for the third week according to updated South Region polling released Wednesday.

The Saint Leo women's cross country team is also receiving votes in the national poll.

Junior Colett Rampf won the individual title in the Saint Leo Division II National Preview cross country meet this past weekend with a time of 22:45.32, but the Lions needed a tiebreaker to fall in their favor to clinch the team championship. Saint Leo and the University of Tampa were tied with 54 points each for the team award, decided by head-to-head matchups among scoring runners – which the Lions won, 3-2. Tampa is currently No. 4 in the South Region.

Saint Leo's men's team won the men's race of the Saint Leo Division II National Preview cross country meet this past weekend, having all five point-scoring runners finish within the top 20. Ronald Cheserek completed the 8K course in 26:14.30 to lead the Lions.

Both Cheserek and Rampf were named Sunshine State Conference Runners of the Week for their performances.
