Cheserek earns fourth SSC MXC Runner of the Week honor

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men's cross country runner Ronald Cheserek earned his fourth Sunshine State Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honor of the season on Monday, after being tabbed for the award following his performance at Saturday's Saint Leo Division II National Preview cross country meet.

Cheserek took individual first-place honors at the Division II National Preview 8K men's race, completing the challenging and muddy course in 26:14.30 and finishing 26 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Trey Simons of Morehouse College. The course was a shorter and slightly modified version of the same course that will be used for the upcoming NCAA Division II South Region and national championship events.

With Cheserek leading the way, Saint Leo won the team championship at the event with 41 points. Flagler College was second with 62 points, followed by Augusta with 78 points.

The Lions are idle from competition this week as they rest and train for the upcoming championship races. The first of those is the 2016 Sunshine State Conference Cross Country Championships, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, in Melbourne, Fla.
