Cheserek selected SSC MXC Runner of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men's cross country runner Ronald Cheserek earned Sunshine State Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for the third time in as many races, after receiving the accolade on Monday following his performance at Saturday's 43rd Annual Lehigh University Paul Short Run.

Cheserek posted the fastest 8K time by an SSC runner last weekend, setting a new Saint Leo 8K record in the process, with a time of 24:22.5 in the Paul Short Run's College Gold race. Cheserek's time eclipsed the previous mark set by Niclas Bez at the 2014 USC-Beaufort Sand Shark Invitational.

Cheserek finished 46th overall, 45th in points in the College Gold race, out of 1003 runners across three Paul Short Run races. He finished fourth among Division II runners in all three races. The College Gold race in which Cheserek ran featured a field of 38 teams – 30 of whom were Division I schools – including six Division I teams, two Division II teams, and one Division III team that were all either nationally ranked or receiving votes in their respective USTFCCCA national polls.

The Lions' season continues this Saturday, Oct. 8, when they host the Saint Leo Division II National Preview race at The Abbey Golf Course. The men's 8K race begins at 8:00 a.m. followed by the women's 6K race at 9:15 a.m.
