Men’s XC climbs in region poll; women’s XC retains top spot

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's cross country retained the top spot in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Region poll for the third consecutive week, while the men's cross country team jumped one spot in the South rankings, according to updated South Region polling released Wednesday.

Top five in the women's South Region rankings remained unchanged this week. Saint Leo leads the pack, followed by Lee (Tenn.), Union (Tenn.), Tampa, and West Alabama. Two more Sunshine State Conference rivals – Palm Beach Atlantic (No. 8) and Florida Tech (No. 9) – are further back in the regional poll.

Saint Leo women's cross country is also receiving two votes in the USTFCCCA Division II National Rankings.

In the men's South Region rankings, Saint Leo switched places with Nova Southeastern to move into fourth place. Lee (Tenn.), Florida Southern, and Alabama-Huntsville continue to hold the 1-2-3 spots in the regional poll. SSC rivals Tampa (No. 8) and Florida Tech (No. 10) are cracked the results of the South Region coaches voting.

Both the Saint Leo men's and women's cross country teams came away victorious at last Saturday's UF Mountain Dew Invitational, finishing first among the non-Division I teams in the meet.

The Lions are back in action this Saturday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to compete in the Lehigh University Paul Short Run.
