Cheserek tabbed as SSC MXC Runner of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men's cross country runner Ronald Cheserek was tabbed as Sunshine State Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the second time this season when Monday's SSC weekly honors were announced, after picking up a victory in his second collegiate race.

Cheserek crossed the line first overall out of 208 runners at the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational, recording a time of 24:43.02.

That time was less than a half-second off Niclas Bez's Saint Leo 8K record time of 24:42.40. Cheserek finished approximately 19 seconds ahead of the next closest finisher, former UF standout Eddie Garcia (25:01.52).

With Cheserek leading the way, Saint Leo won the non-Division I team championship at the Mountain Dew Invitational, finishing first out of 12 teams in the event.

The Lions' season continues this Saturday, Oct. 1, when they travel to Bethlehem, Pa., to race in the Lehigh University Paul Short Run.
