Cross Country and Track Programs Earn another Program First
SAINT LEO, Fla. (June 25, 2014) – Adding to a long list of accomplishments for the 2013-14 year, rising junior Carl Dunne adds Capital One Academic All-America honors to his list of sophomore year accolades.
Announced on Wednesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Dunne becomes the first member of the Saint Leo cross country and track teams to be named to the Capital One Academic All-America team.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his or her current institution, and be nominated by his or her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
The Monasterboice, Ireland native earns Second Team Academic All-America honors after a stellar sophomore slate that saw him earn All-Conference and All-Region honors while also winning the individual title at the 2013 Sunshine State Conference Championship meet. Dunne's efforts helped the Lions to Nationals, where his hard work helped the team earn a 26th place team finish overall.
In the classroom, the Accounting and Economics major performed just as admirably, earning him the title of 2013-14 Saint Leo Male Student-Athlete of the Year. Dunne has been a four time member of the President's Club while also earning Commissioner's Honor Role, Dean's List, and USTFCCCA Academic All-Region and CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honors this year.
