Carl Dunne Notches All-South Region Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Saint Leo's men's cross country freshman star Carl Dunne notched yet another accolade as he was selected to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-South Region team, announced Monday evening from New Orleans.

Recognizing nearly 400 athletes from across the Division II ranks, Dunne earned the award by finishing the NCAA South Region championship meet in the top-5.

During his freshman season alone, Dunne has broken numerous program records, notching his name four times on the all-time 8K program records list although he participated in only six 8K races. In addition, his fifth-place finish at the NCAA South Region Championships shattered the all-time fastest program 10K record that was previously achieved by Jon Norris in 2011.

For the men, Edinboro and Alaska Anchorage lead the nation with all seven of their athletes earning All-Region honors. Chico State, Adams State, Augustana (S.D.), and Western State followed with six each. Mount Olive had three freshmen take All-Region distinctions, which tallied the most in the nation for Division II programs.

On the women's side, Adams State, Chico State, and Stonehill were all perfect in the All-Region category, having all seven of their runners earn top honors, while Grand Valley State, Tampa, and Alaska Anchorage tallied six All-Region awards.

Missouri Southern will host the NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championships on Saturday Nov.17 at the MSSU Cross Country Course in Joplin, Missouri.

The USTFCCCA will release the final regular-season national coaches' rankings of the season in Division II on Wednesday, Nov. 7. In addition, regional athletes and coaches of the year will be named Wednesday.
