NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Saint Leo men's cross country team once again earned regional recognition on Tuesday as they were regionally ranked tenth in the south region according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The first ranking came just one week ago.
The Lions, who gained seven freshman runners at the beginning of the season, have competed in all six of their regular season races this year. The Lions' best race of the year came at the Saint Leo University Invitational, when the Lions finished with a season-best 4th place finish. Their next race, which took place at Florida State University, featured a 14th place finish, while their most recent meet, the UCF Invitational, saw a 7th finish out of a mix of 11 Division I and Division II teams.
USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
The Lions will return to the course this Saturday, Oct. 20 when they take on the other members of the Sunshine State Conference in the SSC Championships. The meet, hosted by Rollins College, will take place UCF Cross Country Complex in Winter Park, Fla. The men's race is set to begin at 7:30 a.m.
The NCAA Division II South Region Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 and Sunday, Nov. 4 from Sharon Johnston Park in Huntsville, Ala.
