Men’s Cross Country Earns Second-Place at Meet

TITUSVILLE, Fla. – For the second consecutive season, the Saint Leo men's cross country team earned second place honors at Friday evening's meet from Chain of Lakes Park. The Lions clinched second-place with solid 55 points, 35 points ahead of third-place Stetson University.

The rare men's 5K run saw the University of North Florida take home the team championship with a total of 15 points.

Individually, North Florida's James Post dominated competition as he ran nearly 30 seconds faster than runner-up and teammate Mike Starsser with a time of 15:16.89.

For the Lions, Jon Norris cracked the top-10 in the 82-person field coming in ninth with a finishing time of 16:27.69. Brian Haynes was nipping on his heels as he concluded the run in 12th-place with a time of 16:39.70.

David Malys finished 17th overall and third on Lions' roster sheet registering a time of 17:20.13. Malys was followed by Eric Dirth and Michael Berry as the two veteran runners posted times of 17:24.46 and 17:31.32, respectively.

Jeff Van Natter finished in the top half of the field as he posted a time of 18:21.71. Justin Prengaman crossed the tape at 18:45.86, and Kevin Papac closed the Lions' run with a closing time of 18:55.31.

The men's cross country team returns to the course on Saturday, October 8, when they travel to Orlando, Fla. to compete in the Disney Classic 5K. For the latest news, information, and updates on the men's cross country team, visit
