Men's Cross Country Earns Nod in Preseason Regional Poll

NEW ORLEANS, La. – After finishing the 2010 campaign just outside the region's top-10, the Saint Leo University men's cross country squad cracked the list in the first poll of the 2011 season as they were selected 10th, it was announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Lions are one of five Sunshine State Conference schools to receive a region nod, and stand only two spots behind Florida Tech for eighth.

SSC foe Florida Southern sits atop the early-season poll.

A relatively young squad, the Lions return nine to this 2011 lineup, a group which features a total of 14 runners.

In addition to the young, promising talent, each of the Lions six record-breaking runners return to the Green & Gold for the upcoming season.

The recent acquisition of such depth will only help the Lions during the 2011 season as they make a push towards a strong finish at the SSC Championship.

The Lions will kick-off their 2011 campaign on Friday, September 2 when they travel to Tampa, Fla. to compete in the University of Tampa Early Bird Classic. The men are scheduled to go off at 6:30 p.m., with the women preceding the men at 6:00 p.m.
