SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's and women's track squads were competing as split squads on Friday night, with the teams sending three representatives to North Carolina State's Raleigh Relays, while four runners headed to Jacksonville, Fla., to participate in the Univ. of North Florida Sheraton Spring Break Invitational.
The Lions had two runners set NCAA qualifying marks on Friday at N.C. State's Paul Derr Track.
Junior Colett Rampf clocked a personal best time of 10:17.46 in the women's 3000m steeplechase, finishing third out of 37 competitors. She eclipsed her previous personal record of 10:18.56, set last April at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
Senior Rafal Matuszczak posted a time of 30:12.23 in the men's 10,000m run, setting a new Saint Leo school record and beating the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time by nearly 48 seconds. Matuszczak was 34th overall in a field of 63 runners.
Senior Niclas Bez crossed the finish line in 4:08.93 in the 1,500m run, and was 65th overall.
SHERATON SPRING BREAK INVITATIONAL
Josh Sickinger was second out of 10 runners in the men's 3000m steeplechase at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium, posting a time of 9:48.61.
Junior Anthony Deleva was the lone Saint Leo men's runner in the 10,000m run, and he clocked a time of 32:58.46 on his way to a third-place finish.
Sophomore Laura Tobin and freshman Fatima Abu-Rumman competed in the women's 10,000m run at the UNF meet. Tobin was second with a time of 38:28.95, while Abu-Rumman was fourth after crossing the finish in 44:13.39.
