Lions Turn in Solid Performances at UNF Invite

Agyemang-Duah and Tancic Pace the Way for Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Herns Agyemang-Duah and Jelena Tancic highlighted a day that saw the Saint Leo University men's and women's track teams record nine top 20 finishes in events at the University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational, Friday at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. 

Agyemang-Duah turned in the best finish of the afternoon for the Lions with a second place finish in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 48.22. In addition, the junior finished the 200-meter dash in seventh with a time of 22.27. 

Tancic recorded the best finish of the day for the women taking fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:43.11. 

Six other Saint Leo performers finished in the top 20 of their respective events. 

In the men's 800-meter run, James Mullin took 11th with a time of 1:58.98, while Carl Dunne finished 12th in 1:59.19, and Niclas Bez ran a 1:59.94, good enough for 14th

Thomas Watson took 19th in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 52.46. 

Andrea Maxwell had two top 15 finishes taking 12th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:21.02, and 14th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:54.45. 

Watson also ran in the 200-meter dash finishing 37th in a time of 23.98. 

The largest contingent of runners for the Lions took part in the 5,000-meter run.  Seven competitors ran in the distance event and were led by Rafael Lohner finishing 24th in a time of 16:39.53. Teammate Patrick Hill finished just behind Lohner in 26th with a time of 16:41.81, while Steven Brown took 32nd (16:57.04) and David Hill finished 36th (17:13.56). In 38th was Kyle Van Buren (17:15.30) followed by Kevin Papac in 41st (17:33.95) and Matthew Basin in 44th (18:35.70). 

In additional women's competition, Grace Lederer finished 26th in the 1,500-meter run posting a time of 5:26.35, just ahead of Lee Ann Antuna in 20th (5:49.60) and Elyse Snyder in 31st (6:14.17). 

In the 5,000-meter run, Anet Milian took 32nd with a time of 21:11.02. She was followed across the finish line by Snyder in 35th (22:53.51) and Allison Knipe in 36th (22:58.14). 

The men's and women's track teams will return to action on April 4-5 at the prestigious Pepsi Florida Relays at the Percy Beard Track Facility in Gainesville.
