TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2016-17 Division II regional and national award winners on Monday, May 8, 2017, at the 2017 Division II NCAA Tennis Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Saint Leo saw three individuals honors.

Junior Jaime Bueno was named both the National and South Region Player to Watch. Bueno went 15-0 at the No. 3 singles position, including scoring a victory over a top five nationally-ranked opponent, and was 8-0 at No. 3 doubles with teammate Willem Van Den Akker.

Sophomore Thomas Grinberg was named the South Region Rookie of the Year following his first collegiate season that saw him earn First Team All-SSC honors for singles and doubles. He went 13-2 at the No. 1 slot in singles action and went 13-5 in doubles action with teammate Vincent Suillerot.

The Lions also saw senior Marine Beugre-Guyot earn South Region Most Improved Player honors which are given to a senior. Beugre-Guyot, who played No. 3 singles for most of her junior year, was elevated to the NO. 1 singles spot and improved from Second Team All-Sunshine State Conference honors in 2016 to First Team honors in 2017.

The Saint Leo tennis programs finished up the 2017 season. The men's team finished with a 13-5 record while going 6-1 in the SSC for a second place finish. The women's team went 9-7, and 5-4 in the SSC.
