Men's tennis claims Third Place in 2017 SSC Tournament

BRADENTON, Fla. – The No. 2-Seed Saint Leo men's tennis team claimed Third Place at the 2017 Sunshine State Conference Tournament with a 5-1 win over the No. 4-Seed Rollins on Saturday morning at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead following double action.

Oskar Nurmio and Francisco Aparicio claimed an 8-4 win at Flight No. 2 over the Tars Cody Gubin and Daniel Feri.

Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot added the next point with a 9-7 win at Flight No. 1. They took down Patrick Sell and Sami Kirberg.

Jaime Bueno and Willem Van Den Akker took the third point as they topped Francesco Racanelli and Ziad Melhaoui, 8-5.

Bueno added the fourth point with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Kirberg at Flight No. 3 in singles play.

The Tars were able to snag a point as Gubin topped Nurmio, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) at Flight No. 6.

Grinberg sealed the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Patrick Sell at Flight No. 1.

The Lions improve to 13-4 on the season and will await their NCAA postseason fate as the NCAA Regional Brackets will be released on Tuesday, April 25 at 8:30 p.m. on
