No. 2 Men's tennis falls to No. 3 Armstrong State, 6-3

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The No. 2 Saint Leo men's tennis team fell to No. 3 Armstrong State, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon in Savannah, Ga.

The Lions went down 3-0 following doubles, despite battles at all three flights.  At No. 1, Thomas Grinberg and Vincent Suillerot pushed Alberto Casas and Jan Porteset to the limit but ultimately fell 8-6. Jaime Bueno and Oskar Nurmio fell by the same score, while Francisco Aparicio and Charles Benet lost 8-5.

In singles, Saint Leo's top three flights proved to dominate, claiming all three. Grinberg bested Bjorn Kurtze, 6-2, 6-3, to stay perfect in singles on the year. Suillerot added a 6-4, 6-2 win over Porteset at No. 2 singles, and Bueno claimed No. 3 flight by due to default.

Freshman Willem Van Den Akker nearly pulled off the win at No. 6 singles, grabbing the opening set, 6-3, before dropping the second, 4-6. He lost the third set, 10-5.

Aparicio dropped the No. 4 flight, 6-2, 6-4, while Benet fell 7-5, 6-3, at No. 5.

Saint Leo returns to action as they host St. Thomas (NAIA) on Friday, Feb. 24 for a 3:00 p.m. match.
