Fourth-Seed Saint Leo Bows Out in Semifinal Round to Top-Seed Barry, 5-0
No. 4 Lions End Conference Run to No. 2 Buccaneers
WINTER PARK, Fla. – The fourth-seeded Saint Leo men's tennis team took to the courts against the top-seeded Barry University on Friday morning in the Semifinal round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The No. 2-ranked Buccaneers earned a 5-0 win over the fourth-ranked Lions, concluding their run in the SSC Championship.
The Lions drop to a mark of 18-5 on the season, while the Buccaneers advance to a record of 20-2. The Lions now await news of teams advancing to the South Region tournament.
The Buccaneers took all three doubles flights, beginning with the tandem of Renato Lombardi and Fabian Groetsch defeating Ismail Lemtouni and Fons Verberne, 8-4 at the No. 3 position. The No. 3-ranked duo of Ollie Lemaitre and Ahmed Triki picked up an 8-3 win overe Bruno Sisti and Aloua Adjenak at No. 1 doubles, while Leo Vivas and Romain Costamagna earned an 8-1 win over Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier at the No. 2 flight.
Nico Dreer earned the Bucs' fourth win of the morning at No. 4 singles, defeating Lozier 6-0, 6-0, and No. 8-ranked Triki took down 40th-ranked Adjenak 6-1, 6-1 in the top flight to secure the victory.
