WINTER PARK, Fla. - Saint Leo junior Matt Nicholson-Lewis has been named Sunshine State Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week presented by VALIC.
Nicholson-Lewis (Cambridge, England) won all three of his #3 singles matches and a pair of #2 doubles contests in a week in which the No. 12 Lions went 2-1. Nicholson-Lewis, who is the No. 29-ranked player in Division II singles, began the week with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Barry Dylewski in the Lions' 8-1 SSC win over Florida Tech. He also teamed with Bruno Sisti for an 8-2 doubles victory over Dylewski and Riley Lorenz.
In an 8-1 regional win versus Palm Beach Atlantic, he downed Matt Leeds 6-0, 6-1 and joined Sisti for an 8-4 doubles decision over Giusepe Guarnieri and Michael Tsoi. Despite his team's 7-2 conference setback at Barry, Nicholson-Lewis collected one of the Lions' points with a 6-3, 6-2 singles victory over Renato Lombardi.
So far in 2013, Nicholson-Lewis is 6-2 overall and riding a three-match win streak. Within the SSC he is 2-1 after eight matches.
The Lions next opponent will visit the Saint Leo Tennis Center as Saint Leo squares off against Rockhurst on March 5. The match is scheduled to get underway at 3:00 p.m.
