MELBOURNE, Fla. – Collecting their fourth shutout of the season, the No.18-ranked Saint Leo men's tennis team (5-3, 1-2 SSC) posted a 9-0 win over Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Tech (4-2, 2-1 SSC), Friday afternoon from the Fee Avenue Tennis Courts.
The win marks the men's first SSC victory of the season.
The Lions No.1 team and 21st-ranked pair of Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier paced the Lions in the early portions of the contest as they overpowered Barry Dylewski and D.J. Pate, 8-2. Meanwhile Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio and Antonine Raffaelli knocked-off Michael Schmidt and Riley Lorenz, 8-4. Aloua Adjenak and Jake Fleischer put the finishing touches on the doubles sweep as they downed Beau Fieldsend and Daniel Armellino, 8-5.
The Lions remained consistent in singles play as they took each of the matches in consecutive sets. Gonzalez-Tarrio highlighted the session as he dropped Strachen, 6-2, 6-1, while Nicholson-Lewis conquered McLane at No.1 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
"The guys got off to a good start and never looked back," said Head Coach James Bryce. "We've had a good start to the season and looking forward to continuing it."
The Lions will return to the court on Tuesday, February 28, when they host Rollins College in a Sunshine State Conference showdown. First serve is set for 11 a.m. from the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
