SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's tennis team (4-1) collected its second shutout of the 2012 season as they upended the Eckerd College Tritons (0-2), Tuesday afternoon from the Saint Leo Tennis Center.
The non-conference slate saw Saint Leo race out to a 3-0 lead after double action, before using six wins on the singles to complete the shutout.
On the doubles side, Saint Leo's No.21 tandem of Matt Nicholson-Lewis and Victor Lozier raced past Dylan Randazzo and Stephen Felman, 8-1. Antonine Raffaelli and Jacobo Gonzalez-Tarrio registered an 8-4 win, while Alou Adjenak and Jake Fleischer posted an 8-3 win.
The singles portion was highlighted by Fleischer as he went 6-0, 6-0 over Connor Ohlsen. Nicholson-Lewis also played well capturing a 6-0, 6-1 win, and Tim Balz-Herrmann broke his opponent in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-0.
"We played well today," said head coach James Bryce. "We need to stay hungry, however, and not be satisfied with our previous match. We need to carry this momentum into this weekend as we take on a pair of talented squads.
The men return to action on Saturday, February 18, when they challenge No.5-ranked Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. First serve is set for 2 p.m. from the Perper Tennis Complex.
