SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Saint Leo men's and women's tennis teams continue to be recognized for their stellar 2011 season as each side found multiple athletes on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Preseason Rankings chart, it was announced Wednesday by ITA officials.
The women, who recently completed a successful fall campaign, saw one singles competitor and a doubles team collect national recognition. Emily Singleton, a transfer from Arkansas-Fort Smith, ranks 13th in the south region in singles competition. Meanwhile, Singleton, along with her teammate Laura Kemkes, comes in as the third-best doubles team in the region.
Furthermore, the duo rank 12th nationally in doubles.
As a team, the women rank eighth in the south standings.
The men, on the other hand, boast a team ranking of 18th in the nation and sixth in the south region.
A trio of singles competitors ranks in the top-20 of the south region including, Victor Lozier, Matt Nicholson-Lewis, and Alou Adjenak. Lozier and Nicholson-Lewis also rank as the seventh-best doubles team in the south.
The same trio ranks in the nation's top-50. Lozier ranks 27th, while Nicholson-Lewis and Adjenak ranks 32nd and 43rd, respectively.
The Lions No.1 doubles team of Lozier and Nicholson-Lewis collected a spot in the top-25 as they head into 2012 ranked 21st in the country.
