Lions Set to Challenge Tars in Third-Place Match
SAINT LEO, Fla. – Coming off one of the biggest wins in program history, the No.27-ranked men's tennis team faced their first setback of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament as they fell at the hands of the No.4-ranked Barry University Buccaneers, 5-0, Friday afternoon from the Sanlando Tennis Center.
The Lions are now set-up for the third-place match with SSC foe Rollins College on Saturday, April 16. Opening serve for the showdown is set for noon from the Sanlando Tennis Center.
Testing one of the nation's best, the Lions demonstrated the ability to compete with one fo the top teams in the conference, region, and country.
The Lions No.2 doubles squad of Aloua Adjenak and Jose Morales traded points with the Barry tandem of Marco Mokrzycki and Quentin Vachez, but could not pull it out in the end, falling 8-5.
The singles side also saw a strong team effort, but Barry wins at No.4 and No.5 solidified the match, leaving four matches unfinished.
At the conclusion of the match, Matt Nicholson-Lewis was on the verge of splitting the first two sets with Max Wimmer, while Adjenak fell just short in his match 6-4, 5-3.
