SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men’s tennis team (3-6) made quick work of the Saint Joseph College Pumas, winning in impressive fashion 9-0, Wednesday evening from the SLU Tennis Center.
The Lions have really begun to put it together during their last six matches going 3-3 during the stretch. Wednesday evening culminated with one of the most impressive victories this season.
Saint Leo started the day with a complete sweep of doubles action. Yves Jacobs and Richard Machlachlan ran their opponents in No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Pablo Chavez and Jose Morales quickly followed suit just one court over winning by the same margin. Diego Timoteo and Andrew Sheets put the finishing touches on the sweep; winning by the widest margin of any doubles pair, 8-1.
Chavez picked up the torch and ran with in singles action, defeating his opponent in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. Only one other Puma’s player could match that production on the day. Jacobs then used the No. 2 doubles spot to win in shutout fashion, 6-0, 6-0. Machlachlan was not too far off that pace in the No. 3 singles as he only allowed one point winning 6-1, 6-0. Timoteo mimicked his teammate in No. 4 singles, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. Morales made the same score standup for the third consecutive time winning in No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-1. Anthony Carter was also impressive in his straight sets victory winning 6-3 and 6-2.
The Lions can only savor the victory for a short while as they hit the court once again, Thursday, March 5 for a 3:00 pm showdown with St. Thomas University.
