SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men’s tennis team (2-6) dropped a 9-0 decision to Northwood University in non-conference action from the SLU Tennis Center Monday afternoon.

In doubles action, the Lions duo of Yves Jacobs and Richard Maclachlan provided the best chance at victory for SLU but could not overcome the effective hitting of their opponents, falling 8-3. Pablo Chavez and Jose Morales teamed together in the No. 2 doubles spot to take on the pair of Vigouroux and Brignolam. Immediately, the Seahawks took an advantage that they did not relinquish putting SLU in 2-0 hole heading into the final doubles match. The No. 3 team of Diego Timoteo and Andrew Sheets couldn’t supply Saint Leo with a win as the Seahawks duo swept the match, winning 8-0.

SLU gave a strong effort in singles action, but the Northwood team didn’t give Saint Leo any breathing room putting the Lions away in six consecutive matches.

In No. 1 singles play, Chavez dropped his sets to Kazianscheutz, 6-0, 6-3, while Jacobs fell in consecutive sets 6-0, 6-0. Machlachlan managed to score two points of each of his sets but still fell 6-2, 6-2. Timoteo played valiantly but he too lost his match in consecutive sets, 6-1, 6-1. Even with the match decided the Lions did not quit, as Morales forced his opponent to the edge. Unfortunately for Morales and the rest of the team, the effort wasn’t enough as he fell 6-3, 7-5.

The men’s team continues non-conference action, as they prepare for St. Josephs College to visit the SLU Tennis Center this Thursday, March 4. First Serve is set for 3:00 pm.
