SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men’s tennis team (2-5, 0-2 SSC) dropped a Sunshine State Conference clash with Lynn University, 9-0 Sunday afternoon at the SLU Tennis Center.
Just as the women’s team did, the men’s team had to deal with both bad weather and a very talented Lynn squad. Immediately, the Lions faced a 3-0 deficit, as they dropped each of their doubles matches.
Each of the Lions’ pairs dropped 8-1 matches, including the No. 1 team of Yves Jacobs and Richard Maclachlan. Pablo Chavez and Jose Morales fell in the No. 2 position, while Diego Timoteo and Andrew Sheets couldn’t last against Sarra and Pavanelli.
Saint Leo challenged the Fighting Knights at the beginning of singles action as Chavez took on Carsuzaa in No. 1 singles, but ultimately dropped the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Jacobs was another victim of a straight-set defeat despite a strong showing by the No. 2 singles player, 6-3, 6-2. The loss solidified the match for the Fighting Knights, still SLU continued to press on but could not come up with a singles match victory.
The Lions return to the court Monday, March 2 for a non-conference match up with Northwood University. First serve is set for 3:00 pm.
