SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University men’s tennis team (2-3) made quick work of Alma College Tuesday evening at the SLU Tennis Center defeating the Scots, 8-1.

The Lions began their match with a dominant performance in doubles action. The No. 1 doubles team of Yves Jacobs and Richard Mac Lachlan flew through the duo of Fraser and Lovejoy by the final score of 8-2. The momentum seemed to carry to the other courts, as well. The Lions No. 2 doubles group of Pablo Chavez and Jose Morales wasted no time in defeating the pair of Montoye and Stuart sending them home with the same final score as the No. 1 group.  Although the Scots No. 3 doubles scored three more points than any other Alma doubles pair, the Lions’ tandem of Diego Timoteo and Andrew Sheets proved to be to strong pulling away for an 8-5 set win.

As single action got underway it was evident that the Lions were the team. Chavez, the Lions No. 1 singles, laid the ground work for impressive Leo showing early in the match defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-0. Jacobs experienced the same success on his court winning in grand fashion 6-2, 6-0. His match win decided the match in the Lions favor. Mac Lachlan then won in straight sets over his opponent in No. 3 singles play 6-1, 6-1. Timoteo went to a first set tie breaker but still pulled out an impressive 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 match win. Morales wrapped up the winning ways for Saint Leo with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Kerr in No. 5 singles.

The Lions now take their show on the road to Winter Park, Fla. where they will take on the Rollins College Tars in non-conference action. First serve is set for 3:00 pm.
