Saint Leo, Fla. (April 14, 2008) – The Saint Leo men’s tennis team (3-14) fell in their final match of the regular season to Palm Beach Atlantic University 7-2 Monday afternoon at the SLU Tennis Center.
The Lions dropped all three matches in doubles competition. The Lions duo of Brandon Stacey (Sr., Galesburg, Ill.) and Saif Noorsumar (Sr., Karachi, Pakistan) fell in a tight match to Brock Newton and John Tilton 8-6. The No. 2 pair of Ali ElNaamani (Grad., Saida Lebanon) and David Farinez (Sr., Puerto Orvaz, Venezuela) lost 8-3 to the Salifish tandem of Paul Segodo and Franki Moulton. In the No. 3 doubles spot, Michael DelPriore (Sr., Englewood, Fla.) and Pablo Chavez (Fr., Maragrita, Venezuela) dropped their match to Lukas Columbo and James Buerkle 8-3.
Singles faired better for the Lions but the effort still was not enough. Both No. 1 and No. 2 position players fell for the Lions. The Lions’ Chavez dropped his match 6-1, 6-2while Stacey fell in two-sets 6-0, 6-1. The Lions first point of the afternoon came at the No. 3 position, as Noorsumar took-out Moulton 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. The Lions narrowly missed picking up their second point of the day when El Naamani dropped his match to Tilton in super tiebreaker action 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 11-9. SLU’s second point happened in the No. 5 position, as DelPriore blew past Buerkle 6-4, 7-5. Diego Timoteo (So., Brazil) fell in the final match of the day, also in super tiebreaker play to Tyler Dealy 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.
Saint Leo will continue its 2008 season in Lakeland, Fla. at the SSC Tournament Quarterfinals. The Lions will take on No. 2 seed Lynn University on Thursday, April 17 at 4:30 p.m.
