St. Petersburg, Fla. (April 1, 2008) – The Saint Leo men’s tennis team (3-11, 0-4 SSC) was defeated by the Eckerd College Tritons (2-10. 1-4 SSC) Tuesday afternoon in St. Petersburg 5-4.
In doubles competition, the Lions won their first match, as the No.1 pair of Brandon Stacey (Sr., Galesburg, Ill.) and Saif Noorsumar (Sr., Karachi, Pakistan) outlasted the Eckerd duo of Hisa Sato and Colton Jacobs 8-4. The Lions dropped the final two doubles matches, as the No.2 tandem of David Farinez (Sr., Puerto Orvaz, Fla.) and Diego Timoteo (So., Brazil) dropped their match to Alex McDonald and Breen Eitel 8-3. Pablo Chavez (Fr., Margarita, Venezuela) and Michael DelPriore (Sr., Englewood, Fla.) didn’t get on track falling to Eckerd’s pair of JP Walker and Holt Weeks 8-3.
In singles action, the Lions faired better splitting the six matches with the Tritons. It took the Tritons’ Sato three sets to put away Chavez 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. Stacey put another point on the board for the Lions making quick work of Jacobs 6-1, 6-3. In a grueling match, McDonald defeated Noorsumar in a three set thriller 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 3-0, retired. SLU got their third point of the day, as DelPriore defeated Weeks 6-3, 6-4. The Lions failed to win their last match, as Timoteo fell to Eitel in a highly contested match-up 6-3, 7-6 (7-0).
