Saint Leo, Fla. (March 24, 2008) – The Saint Leo men’s tennis team (2-9) defeated the St. Olaf Oles (2-3), 7-2 Tuesday afternoon at the SLU Tennis Center.

Saint Leo raced out to an early lead against the Oles, picking up two victories in doubles action. The combination of Brandon Stacey (Sr., Galesburg, Ill.) and Saif Noorsumar (Sr., Karachi, Pakistan) picked up the Lions first point of the day by the defeating the Oles pair 8-5.  The duo of Pablo Chavez (Fr., Margarita, Venezuela) and David Farinez (Sr., Puerto Orvaz) picked up the Lions’ second point of doubles action, defeating their opponents by the score of 8-6.

The Lions looked even more impressive in singles action, as five out of the six players scored a point for the Lions. Chavez, Stacey and Noorsumar dominated in their matches, each picking up a point. Stacey was impressive in singles play, as he only allowed his opponent two points all day defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-1. Michael DelPriore (Sr., Englewood, Fla.) and Diego Timoteo (So., Brazil) also picked up points for the Lions. DelPriore cruised to a 6-3 first set victory and didn’t let up in the second set putting his opponent away 6-1. Timoteo took care of his opponent winning by the scores of 6-2, 6-1.

The men’s tennis team will hit the court again Friday, March 28 in a non-conference match-up with the West Alabama Tigers. The match is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. at the SLU Tennis Complex.
