Northwood, Fla. (February 20, 2008) – Saint Leo men’s tennis team (1-4) defeated the Northwood University Seahawks (0-4) 7-2 in singles and doubles actions Wednesday afternoon in windy Palm Beach, Fla. The win signifies the first of the 2008 regular season for the Lions.

In Wednesday's doubles action, Brandon Stacey (Sr., Galesburg, Ill.) and Saif Noorsumar (Sr., Karachi, Pakistan), teamed to be the lone Lions to win for Saint Leo. The duo defeated the combination of Gabriel Cernea and Joshua Egas by the score of 8-3. The Lions had difficulty in the other two doubles matches, finding themselves down 2-to-1 in the match.

The Lions would come out firing in singles action though, as they swept through the entire Seahawks’ team. All but one match went to three sets except for one, Brandon Stacey’s match versus Andreaus Parschau. Stacey took Parchau by the scores of 7-6 and 6-1. Even when faced with a deficit the Lions never stopped playing tennis. Ali El Naamani (Sr., Saida, Lebanon) and Michael DelPriore (Sr., Englewood, Fla.) both found themselves down after the first set of action but each stormed back to win their match. El Naamani was down one set after loosing 3-6 to Joshua Egas but rallied to win 6-0 in the second set followed by a 6-2 third set to give El Naamani the win. DelPriore lost 2-6 in his first set, only to come back in dominating fashion and win set two 6-4 and then shut out Kevin Butler 6-0 in the third and final set of the match.

The Lions return to action February 23, 2008 as they head to Melbourne to take on the Florida Tech Panthers at 3:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
