West Palm Beach, Fla. (February 8, 2008) – The Saint Leo University men’s tennis team (0-2) fell 6-3 to Palm Beach Atlantic University (3-0) on Friday afternoon in the first of two matches for the Lions in the south Florida area this weekend.
Saint Leo got off to a good start with a win in the number one doubles match, as Brandon Stacey (Sr., Gatesburg, Ill.) and Saif Noorsumar (Sr., Karachi, Pakistan) won 8-4 to get the Lions on the scoreboard. However, PBA won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.
Noorsumar was victorious in the number three match with a straight set win (6-2, 6-2) over Lukas Columbo. The Lions only other point came in the number five singles match with Michael DelPriore (Sr., Englewood, Fla.) posting a straight sets win over James Buerkle (7-6, 6-4).
Each of the other four singles matches finished with straight set wins for the home team, as play was concluded prior to the arrival of heavy rains.
Saint Leo will face Lynn University on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the final match of the two-day trip south.
