Assis Named Swimmer of the Meet, Weber Sets New Conference Mark

ORLANDO, Fla. – The final day of the 2014 Sunshine State Conference Swimming Championships was capped off with Matheus Assis earning his second-straight SSC Swimmer of the Meet title.  Both the men and women concluded the meet in fifth place, with the women posting 364 points, and the men pulling in 323.

The women's team was one point behind Florida Tech in the standings, who earned a total of 365 points throughout the meet.

Assis was named the SSC Male Swimmer of the Meet for the second straight year after another solid day in the water where he took home the top time in the Men's 100 Yard Freestyle event, touching with a time of 44.13.

Nicole Weber also found herself on top of the winner's podium after setting a new Overall SSC record in the Women's 200 Yard Breaststroke, hitting the wall in 2:14.48, to set a new SSC Meet mark as well.

Stephanie Martinez also found herself in the top three, claiming third in the Women's 1650 Yard Free event, finishing in 17:12.92.

Joining Martinez in the 1650 Free event were Kaitlyn Hite (18:15.24), Kristy Marques (18:26.86), and Lindsay Albanese (18:31.21), who finished 15th through 17th, respectively.  Megan McGowan rounded out the list of Lions in the event, hitting the wall with a time of 18:45.24, good for 19th overall.

In the Men's 1650 Free, Dillon Kasson led the way for Saint Leo, posting a time of 16:57.80 and securing 10th place.  Jan Dahrendorff was right behind Kasson, earning 11th with a time of 17:21.85, while Valentine Lenz (18:35.35) and Niclas Bez (19:45.76) finished 13th and 14th, respectively.

Rhet Rheinlander took the top time out of the B Finals division in the Men's 200  Yard Backstroke, touching with a time of 1:53.89 to secure ninth place overall.

Bianca Muniz and Paula Carvajal finishe back-to-back in the Women's 100 Yard Free, posting times of 53.96 and 54.49, respectively, for 12th and 13th place.

Joining Assis in the 100 Yard Free were Gabe Keown and Milton Alberto-Requejo.  Keown finished in 45.48 to earn eighth overall, while Alberto-Requejo touched in 52.41 to finish 16th overall.

Marques and Rachel Cunio took home 13th and 14th place, respectively, finishing the 200 Yard Breaststroke in 2:35.34, and 2:36.00.

In the Women's 200 Yard Butterfly, Chloe Pellican led the way in the B Finals, touching with a time of 2:09.50 for ninth overall.  Alyssa Black was 19th, finishing in 2:11.76, while Chantal Bouthillier claimed 12th with a mark of 2:13.14.  Lenz participated in the Men's 200 Yard Fly, earning a time of 2:24.06 for 14th overall.

Wrapping up the meet with the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, the Saint Leo team of Weber, Cunio, Carvajal, and Muniz earned fifth place with a time of 3:36.70, while the group of Marques, Hite, Martinez, and Black posted a time of 3:42.33 for 12th overall.

The Men's 400 Yard Free Relay saw Assis, Keown, Patrick Ceddia, and Alberto-Requejo take fourth overall with a time of 2:59.46, while the team of Kasson, Michael Marino, Dahrendorff, and Justin Wulff pulled in a time of 3:13.87 for 12th place.
