SOMERS, Wisc. - Saint Leo sophomore Matheus Assis has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week and the Counsilman Hunsaker CollegeSwimming.com Division II Swimmer of the Week.
Assis earned two NCAA provisional times in the 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle relay against No. 1 Florida Southern. Against the Moccasins, the sophomore finished the 100-yard freestyle in first place in a time of 46.10 seconds. He also took first in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 50.57 seconds.
The native of João Pessoa, Brazil was part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that recorded the second best time so far in Division II in a time of 1:23.56 for first place against the Mocs. Against Rollins, Assis finished first in the 200-yard backstroke and the 400-yard relay.
