Lions Topple Nova Southeastern, 136.5-124.5

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's swim team toppled Nova Southeastern University on Saturday afternoon at the Marion Bowman Aquatics Center, out-swimming the Sharks by a final score of 136.5-1234.5.

The Lions opened strong, taking first place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay as Pawel Trenda, Jose De Jesus, Matheus Assis, and Milton Alberto-Requejo earned a total time of 1:30.42.  The combination of Jackson Hall, Justin Wulff, Michael Marino, and Vashaad Fincher picked up fourth place, completing the event with a time of 1:42.64.

Trenda continued his success into the individual events, taking home a first place finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 48.97.  He continued to build momentum into the 100 Yard Backstroke, where his time of 50.65 was good for his second top finish on the afternoon.  The Oswiecim, Poland native rolled through his competition once again in the 100 Yard IM, finishing in first with a time of 51.57.

Alberto-Requejo had a solid home opener, earning a first and second place finish on the afternoon.  The Buenos Aires, Argentina native touched at the 1:45.22 mark in the 200 Yard Freestyle, good for second place, before taking home first in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 47.57.

Fincher saw success in the 50 Yard Breaststroke, touching first with a time of 27.57, before taking home the top slot in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a mark of 1:00.76, touching the same time as NSU's Thomas Aycart.

Rhet Rheinlander earned a second place time of 25.21 in the 50 Yard Backstroke, before picking up a third place time of 54.35 in the 100 Yard Backstroke.  The Sarasota, Fla. native went on to complete in the 50 Yard Butterfly in 24.23, good for third place, as he finished behind Assis and Keown.

Assis completed the afternoon with a pair of top finishes, touching first in the 50 Yard Free with a time of 21:01, and in the 50 Yard Butterfly with a mark of 23:15.  Keown was right behind Assis in the 50 Fly, finishing with a mark of 24:06, good for second.

Dillon Kasson earned a second place touch in the 500 Yard Freestyle, hitting the wall with a time of 4:48.43.

The Lions hammered it home in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, with the combo of Assis, Keown, Rheinlander, and Alberto-Requejo taking home the top slot with a time of 1:24.42.  The relay team of Kasson, Marino, Wulff, and Hall touched with an overall time of 1:32.37, finishing fourth.

The Lions return to the pool deck on Friday, October 25, when they host Florida Southern.  Start time against the Mocs is slated for 4 p.m. at the Marion Bowman Aquatics Center.
